Excluded substances
Based on toxicological evidence and hazard classification, various exclusion lists and policies have been developed on a global level. They exclude the use of materials, which under normal established and foreseeable conditions of use would cause a risk to human health. The most relevant one for the printing ink manufacturing companies in Europe is the EuPIA Exclusion Policy. The European printing ink industry is committed to a voluntary approach of excluding certain raw materials from printing inks and related products. Raw materials classified as carcinogenic, mutagenic, reprotoxic or toxic are excluded from use.
Siegwerk even goes beyond this policy and applies the EuPIA Exclusion Policy on a worldwide basis. Additionally, targeting highest possible ink and consumer safety, we have committed ourselves voluntarily to a non-use of certain substances – for example APEOs and phthalates in all our products or triarylmethane complex salt pigments in nutrition, pharma and hygiene (NPH) applications. Due to our vast knowledge on raw material composition, we are able to actively control and manage these excluded substances.
