INK SAFETY PORTAL

Excluded substances

Based on toxicological evidence and hazard classification, various exclusion lists and policies have been developed on a global level. They exclude the use of materials, which under normal established and foreseeable conditions of use would cause a risk to human health. The most relevant one for the printing ink manufacturing companies in Europe is the EuPIA Charter. Details about this charter will be soon explained in a separate chapter.

Siegwerk even goes beyond this policy and applies the EuPIA Charter on a worldwide basis. Additionally, targeting highest possible ink and consumer safety, we have committed ourselves voluntarily to a non-use of certain substances – for example APEOs and phthalates in all our products or triarylmethane complex salt pigments in nutrition, pharma and hygiene (NPH) applications. Due to our vast knowledge on raw material composition, we are able to actively control and manage these excluded substances.
